In focus: Real voices, real choices
27 March 2006
People who use care services don't just want to be asked for
their views, they want to see their lives changing for the better,
finds our report, 'Real voices, real choices'.
The report is based on a series of meetings at which adults who
use care services told us about the things that concern them the
most.
People who use services told us they expect:
- the choice to decide where and how to live their lives
- services that can help them fulfil their potential
- a say in how services are delivered.
CSCI Chair Dame Denise Platt said: "It's not enough to simply
ask people's views and tick the 'consultation' box.
"The responsibility is with councils and service providers to
listen to what people say and act on it to make people's lives
better."
In future CSCI will ask councils to show that the services they
commission reflect the qualities that people expect.
We are also modernising the way we inspect care services to
assess more effectively how well they meet these expectations.
